About the Land Rover Defender 130

The Land Rover Defender 130 is the largest variant in the modern Defender lineup. Introduced to Australia in 2022, it adds a longer body and an optional third row of seating, making it ideal for larger families or those needing extra cargo space. The 130 retains the same rugged underpinnings as the 90 and 110, including full-time all-wheel drive, Terrain Response technology, and a choice of powerful petrol and diesel engines. Despite its increased size, it offers impressive off-road performance, while delivering a refined on-road ride and a premium cabin experience. With eight seats, advanced safety features, and excellent towing capacity, the Defender 130 is designed for serious touring and extended adventures.

Common Land Rover Defender 130 problems

Due to its extended body and higher rear load capacity, the Defender 130 may experience rear suspension sag or reduced ride comfort when heavily loaded. Air suspension-equipped models are particularly sensitive to calibration and may trigger ride height warning lights under load.
Water ingress has been reported around the rear cargo door, particularly in early production models. This is often due to inadequate tailgate seals or blocked drainage channels. Seal upgrades and proper drainage checks usually prevent recurrence.
As with the 90 and 110, the Pivi Pro infotainment system in the Defender 130 can freeze, reboot, or become unresponsive. Bluetooth pairing issues and delayed rear camera activation have also been noted. These problems are commonly addressed through software updates.
The Defender 130’s larger dimensions can make tight parking spaces and city driving more challenging. Although not a mechanical issue, some owners note that even with parking sensors and a 360-degree camera, the long overhang and turning circle take some adjustment.
In models equipped with rear climate control, some owners report weak airflow or uneven temperature distribution to the third row. This is typically caused by blocked vents or control module glitches and can be resolved during routine servicing.
Like other new Defenders, the 130 has experienced occasional 12V battery drain issues, especially when left parked for long periods. This is generally caused by vehicle systems not entering sleep mode correctly and is often resolved with software fixes.
Due to the vehicle’s size and suspension travel, minor squeaks or rattles in the third-row trim panels or roof lining have been reported. These are mostly cosmetic and can be addressed through insulation or panel refitting.
