The Land Rover Discovery 4, also known as the LR4 in some markets, was sold in Australia from 2009 through to 2016. It built on the strengths of the Discovery 3 by offering improved refinement, upgraded interior trims, and more powerful engine options, including the popular 3.0L twin-turbo diesel V6. With full-time four-wheel drive, air suspension, and impressive towing capacity, the Discovery 4 became a go-to vehicle for Australian families, off-road tourers, and caravan owners alike. Its boxy shape maximised interior space and visibility, while its advanced terrain systems made it a serious off-road contender straight from the factory.

Common Land Rover Discovery 4 problems

The 3.0L diesel V6 engine requires a timing belt replacement around the 160,000 km mark. Failure to replace it can result in severe engine damage. Some owners also report early failures of the oil pump, which can starve the engine of lubrication if left unresolved.
Discovery 4s are equipped with height-adjustable air suspension, but the compressor can wear out or fail entirely. Common symptoms include the suspension warning light, a sagging ride, or the vehicle becoming stuck in off-road or access height.
