About the Land Rover Sport

The Range Rover Sport blends luxury with dynamic on-road performance and genuine off-road ability. The L494, produced from 2013 to 2022, shares its aluminium platform with the full-size Range Rover but features a sportier, more compact design. It’s offered with a wide range of engines including turbo diesel V6s, supercharged petrol V8s, and later plug-in hybrid options. It remains one of Land Rover’s most popular models thanks to its versatility, performance, and prestige.

In 2022, the L461 Range Rover Sport was introduced with sleeker styling, a minimalist interior, and updated technology including the Pivi Pro infotainment system, four-wheel steering, and advanced driver assistance features. The newer generation continues the model’s legacy as a powerful, premium SUV with both road presence and capability.

Common Land Rover Sport problems

Height sensors, air struts, and compressors are known wear points on the L494, especially in higher-mileage vehicles. Warning lights, uneven ride height, or sagging when parked are typical symptoms that require diagnostics or suspension component replacement.
The InControl Touch system may freeze, reboot, or become unresponsive. Navigation and Bluetooth issues are also common, often fixed by software updates or, in some cases, head unit replacement.
Both petrol and diesel variants are known to develop oil leaks as they age, typically from the rear main seal or timing cover. While not always urgent, these leaks can worsen and should be monitored closely.
Some supercharged V6 and V8 engines develop a rattle at startup due to timing chain wear or tensioner issues. If not addressed, it can lead to engine damage and costly repairs.
The twin-turbo diesel V6 is known for turbo actuator faults or bearing wear. Owners may notice reduced performance, increased smoke, or turbo noise under load. Rebuild or replacement is often necessary.
Electronic door lock actuators can fail, causing doors to remain locked or not respond to the key fob. This issue has been widely reported and often affects one or more doors independently.
