About the Land Rover Velar

The Range Rover Velar was introduced to the Australian market in 2017 as a stylish mid-size luxury SUV positioned between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. Known for its minimalist interior, flush door handles, and coupe-like silhouette, the Velar offers a refined driving experience paired with capable all-wheel drive and Terrain Response technology. Engine options include turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol and diesel units, as well as a plug-in hybrid (P400e) in later models. Inside, it features a dual-screen infotainment setup and a modern, tech-forward cabin. The Velar is often chosen for its aesthetics and daily drivability rather than hardcore off-road use.

Common Land Rover Velar problems

The dual-screen Touch Pro Duo system is visually impressive but has been a common source of frustration for owners. Issues include unresponsive touch controls, slow boot times, and occasional freezing. These are generally resolved through software updates or, in some cases, hardware replacement.
Velar’s flush-fitting door handles can fail to deploy, particularly in wet or cold weather. This is often due to water ingress or sensor faults and may require replacement of the handle module.
Some Velar models experience rough or delayed gear changes, especially at low speeds or during stop-start driving. This is usually addressed with a transmission software update or adaptation reset.
