About the Land Rover Discovery Sport

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is a compact luxury SUV introduced in Australia in 2015 as a replacement for the Freelander 2. It offers five or seven-seat flexibility in a smaller footprint while retaining Land Rover’s signature all-wheel drive capabilities and Terrain Response system. The Discovery Sport shares its platform with the Range Rover Evoque and is available with a variety of engines, including 2.0L petrol and diesel options from the Ingenium family. In later years, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants were introduced. Known for its versatile interior, practical boot space, and off-road ability, the Discovery Sport is a popular choice for families who want a stylish and capable SUV with genuine 4WD credentials.

Common Land Rover Discovery Sport problems

Early models often suffer from issues with the InControl infotainment system, including screen freezing, poor Bluetooth connectivity, and unresponsive menus. Software updates or a full system reset typically solve the problem.
The 2.0L Ingenium diesel and petrol engines have been known to suffer from timing chain stretch, particularly in vehicles built before 2019. This can lead to a rattling noise at startup, poor fuel economy, and in severe cases, engine damage. Chain replacement is the usual fix.
